Certificate of Capacity to Marry
The certificate for Capacity to Marry may also be known as, certificate of No Impediment and/or the Eligibility to Marry certificate. These are all the same thing. This document shows to the Moroccan courts that you are not currently married and are getting married at your own free will. This document must be legalized by the Ministry of Interior in Rabat and then translated to Arabic.
Notarized Copy of your Passport
Your embassy will provide a Notarized copy of your passport. This document issued by the American consulate will also be accepted in Morocco as your Affidavit of Nationality so you do not need a separate document proving your nationality. This document doe’s not need translating to Arabic.

The American consulate that issues the documents required for marriage is located in Casablanca, Morocco. There is another American Embassy in Rabat however they DO NOT provide notarial services to obtain the documents you need. Only in Casablanca you can obtain the required documents.

How to book your Appointment
To obtain the Certificate of Capacity to marry and the Notarized Copy of your passport from the American Consulate in Casablanca you must book an appointment for Notarial Services.

When making your booking ensure you select the appointment for NOTARIAL SERVICES. There have been US Citizens turned away from entering the consulate because they selected the incorrect service required when booking.
What you need to take with you to the appointment
You will need to take your American Passport with you to the appointment. Additionally you must take your spouse national ID card or their passport. This can either be the physical document or a clear photo. If taking the National ID card ensure you have the photo of both back and front of the card.
Can my spouse attend the appointment with you?
Yes! They are welcome to attend the appointment with you on the day.
What you need to do next after you obtain the Certificate of Capacity to Marry & Notarized copy of your passport.
You must get these documents legalized by the Ministry of Interior in Rabat, Morocco as soon as you can. You will need to make travel arrangements to to go to Rabat to complete this formality. After these documents have been legalized you need to translate the Certificate of Capacity to Marry. The certified copy of your passport does not need translating.
