At your embassy appointment you will obtain the following documents:

  Certificate of Capacity to Marry

The certificate for Capacity to Marry may also be known as, certificate of No Impediment and/or the Eligibility to Marry certificate. These are all the same thing. This document shows to the Moroccan courts that you are not currently married and are getting married at your own free will. This document must be legalized by the Ministry of Interior in Rabat and then translated to Arabic.

  Notarized Copy of your Passport

Your embassy will provide a Notarized copy of your passport. Depending on your country this document will also be accepted in Morocco as your Affidavit of Nationality so you may not need a separate document proving your nationality. This document doe’s not need translating to Arabic.

  Affidavit of Nationality

This document is an official letter provided by your embassy or consulate which says you are a citizen of that country. The Notarized copy of your passport issued by many embassies replaces the need to obtain the Affidavit of Nationality as they include this information in writing that you are a citizen of your country. If this letter is provided it will require Certified Translation to Arabic.

What you need to take with you to the appointment

You will need to take your Passport with you to the appointment. Additionally you must take your spouse national ID card or their passport. This can either be the physical document or a clear picture. If taking the picture of the National ID card ensure you have the picture of both back and front of the card.

Can my spouse attend the appointment with you?

Most embassies and consulates will allow your partner to attend with you.

How long will the appointment take?

You need to legalize your documents with the Moroccan Ministry of Interior

You must get these documents legalized by the Ministry of Interior in Rabat, Morocco as soon as you can. If your consulate appointment was not in Rabat you will need to make travel arrangements to to go to Rabat to complete this formality. After these documents have been legalized you need to translate the Certificate of Capacity to Marry and the Affidavit of Nationality (if you were provided with one).
