It is important for American citizens intending to marry a Moroccan citizen in Morocco to gather the required documents before leaving the USA.

It is solely your responsibility to ensure that all necessary papers you bring from your country are correct. Marriage in Morocco shall not assume any responsibility or liability for the adoul’s requirements or any legal implications arising from the use of your documents.

While we have compiled a list of standard documents typically required for foreigners getting married in Morocco, it’s crucial to recognize that the requirements may vary depending on the city you will get married. You must contact an Adoul in the city you plan to marry to confirm the required documents for that city. Click here for more information.

Please refer to the checklist provided below to ensure you have the appropriate and correct paperwork.

  • Birth Certificate
  • FBI Rap Sheet
  • Letter of Employment
  • Divorce Certificate
  • Conversion to Islam (non Muslim males)

Certified copy of your original Birth certificate

Apply for a certified copy of your original Birth certificate from the VitalCheck.

If you are a American Citizen with dual citizenship and were born outside of the USA, we recommend contacting the high commission or embassy of your birth country in the USA to request this document.

FBI Rap Sheet

Apply for a hard copy (not digital certificate) your FBI Rap Sheet directly from the FBI online application.

The FBI Rap Sheet must not be dated more then 3 months old at the time of submitting it to the adoul in Morocco.

You may choose to work with an FBI-Approved Channeler—a private business that has contracted with the FBI to submit your request on your behalf. An FBI-Approved Channeler helps speed up the delivery of Identity History Summary Checks (rap sheets) on behalf of the FBI.

Letter of Employment

Provide a letter of employment from your company on their letterhead.

The letter should state your job details, such as start date, job title, annual salary or hourly pay rate, and it must be signed.

The letter of employment must not be dated more then 3 months old at the time of submitting it to the adoul in Morocco.

Additionally you may need to provide your last 3 payslips – These do not require any translation.

Divorce Certificate

If you have been married before, you will be required to provide your divorce certificate.

You can order a copy of your divorce certificate from VitalCheck.

Conversion to Islam (non Muslim males)

If you are not Muslim, you will need to convert to Islam and provide a certificate. This can be done in Morocco.

Please note that all documents originally issued in English will require Moroccan court certified Arabic translations.

In Person Assistance with getting Married in Morocco

As part of our In Person Assistance services, we provide assistance in arranging the translations before your arrival in Morocco.

This ensures that your documents meet the necessary requirements and are readily accepted by the Moroccan authorities during the marriage process.

By preparing your documents and translations in advance, you can streamline the process and avoid any potential complications during your marriage journey in Morocco.
